Sacramento Bee Editorial Board endorses Dr. Flojaune Cofer for Sacramento mayor

California region’s largest daily newspaper cements candidate’s legitimacy and boosts grassroots momentum

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento Bee Editorial Board has endorsed Dr. Flojaune Cofer to be the next mayor of Sacramento, boosting her historic people-powered campaign’s grassroots momentum and sending a message to the political establishment that a new era is dawning for the region’s politics.

The Bee’s endorsement adds to a growing list of prominent organizations aligning behind Dr. Cofer’s mayoral campaign, including national groups like the Working Families Party and Our Revolution, and major unions such as SEIU Local 1021 and the Sacramento City Teachers Association.

“In a field of aspirants loudly calling for change, Cofer is the most likely to bring that change,” wrote the Bee’s editorial board in a glowing endorsement. “She has the most potential to dramatically transform the Sacramento political landscape in the next four years, and that landscape desperately needs transformation.”

”We think she has the best grasp of what ails city hall and the best ideas about how to address the homelessness crisis in both a compassionate and effective way. She has an intriguing strategy for creating a vibrant downtown with jobs, improving public safety, preventing crime, investing in youth and spurring economic development.”

Dr. Cofer expressed gratitude to the editorial board for understanding and articulating her vision to transform Sacramento in such a succinct and clear-eyed manner.

“The Sacramento Bee’s endorsement reflects a new era of politics in Sacramento,” she said. “I’m the candidate working to represent every resident in this city, which is why I’m not accepting money from corporations or cops. Together, we can put an end to homelessness, create a green jobs hub, and make City Hall a place that Sacramentans look forward to visiting.”
