Mayor Pro Tem Mai Vang ENDORSES Dr. Flojaune Cofer forSacramento Mayor
South Sacramento leader sees a fellow change agent in Dr. Cofer
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Mayor Pro Tem Mai Vang endorsed Dr. Flojaune Cofer for Sacramento Mayor on Monday, making her the second city council member to throw her support behind Dr. Cofer’s grassroots, people-powered campaign. No other mayoral candidate has earned an endorsement from a city council official.
Representing the diverse South Sacramento region of District 8, Mayor Pro Tem Vang joins Councilmember Katie Valenzuela in backing Dr. Cofer, whose election would strengthen the growing bloc of progressives on the dais.
“Dr. Flo and I share the same hopes and dreams for our communities, that all Sacramentans have the potential to thrive with access to resources and opportunities,” said Councilmember Vang. “We need a Mayor in City Hall that will never stop fighting for south Sacramento, and Dr. Flo represents a dynamic and vigorous voice that our community rightfully deserves.”
Councilmember Vang and Dr. Cofer have long been allies in local politics. They both backed the Measure L children’s fund in 2022. Recently, Dr. Cofer voiced her support for the Sacramento Forward initiative, a comprehensive solution to the region’s affordable housing crisis proposed by Mayor Pro Tem Vang and councilmembers Katie Valenzuela and Caity Maple.
“I am so humbled to have the support of Mayor Pro Tem Vang, who is helping to lead Sacramento out of this housing and homelessness crisis,” said Dr. Cofer. “Our movement to challenge the status quo is growing. It’s time to put people over profits and build a city where everyone can thrive.”
Both Councilmember Vang and Dr. Cofer reject money from corporate interests that they believe corrupt California politics. They rely instead on contributions from everyday local residents such as teachers, nurses, and state workers.
