LGBTQIA+ Community Leaders Form Committee Supporting Dr. Flojaune Cofer for Mayor 2024

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A group of prominent Sacramento LGBTQIA+ leaders, advocates, and activists this week formed a committee dedicated to supporting Dr. Flojaune Cofer in her run to become the next mayor of Sacramento.

LGBTQIA+ Leaders for Dr. Flo is a broad coalition of members pledging to raise awareness of–and support for–Cofer, an epidemiologist who has championed multiple public health initiatives benefiting the LGBTQIA+ community through her work with nonprofit Public Health Advocates. The group includes pillars in the community such as President of Uptown Studios Tina Reynolds and Executive Director of California TRANScends Ebony Harper.

“Dr. Flo is a brilliant public health advocate and an invaluable longtime collaborator with California TRANScends,” said Harper. “She’s an unyielding leader working for and alongside the trans community. I’m proud to endorse her for mayor because I know she’ll fight to ensure that everyone in this city is safe and healthy, and always has a seat at the table.”

With trans rights under constant attack from the right, the Cofer campaign says it will not stop fighting until every member of the LGBTQIA+ community is safe. Cofer has served as an organizational partner to the Gender Health Center, advocated with the Sacramento LGBTQ Center for the county to increase distribution of monkeypox vaccines, and opened her home to host Queerteenth, a pride celebration for queer Sacramentans of color.

“Dr. Flo,” as she’s often called by the community, has lived in Sacramento for 15 years. As Senior Policy Director for nonprofit Public Health Advocates, Cofer has passed policy related to public health and public safety for over six years. She’s worked with groups such as the Urban League Young Professionals and the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program, and has served on the Mayor’s Commission on Climate Change and the Active Transportation Commission. Most recently, she chaired the Measure U Committee for four terms.
